About Chopmate Chopping Boards

Timber boards are of both end grain and long grain design. The end grain are effectively a cross-section of a tree using small blocks bonded together.  The bonding agent is a new waterproof PVA designed for use in areas subject to water, such as chopping boards and outdoor furniture.  PVA is also a food-safe adhesive.

The end grain concept has two main benefits.  When you are using a knife on the board you are cutting into the grain which means the timber will mark less and the knife will maintain an edge for a longer time.  Secondly, research has shown that timber has anti-bacterial properties.  By nature of the timber being porous, it absorbs bacteria and decontaminates as much as 99% after only three minutes.  This is because the timber has anti-microbial chemicals by which the tree protects itself and these chemicals kill off the bacteria present from food preparation.

Boards are dressed in canola oil and finished with beeswax.  For continued maintenance of your boards apply some oil monthly to the surface, leave for 30 minutes and wipe off the excess.

To clean wipe over with hot soapy water.  Do not put in a dishwasher, soak in water, or leave in direct sunlight.
